TIDINGS FROM THE EAST,

                  Brethren,

The late February snow is falling with a vengeance as I write this
article. The white stuff is starting to get old, but I am confidant that spring is right
around the corner. And with spring comes a fresh start to the year ahead. And so it is with
Plymouth Rock #47. All the new officers are in place and are starting to get familiar with their new
roles and we have some Degree Work lined up and some new and different activities planned for
our members and their families.

Our Ladies’ Dinner on Valentines Day turned out to be less than spectacular. While we had a
great turn out, the restaurant seemed unprepared and uninterested in serving us. It seems that
the manager even blamed us for the bad service by complaining that we had too many people
there! Many of our members and their partners waited over an hour for their meals and were
served meals that were not what they ordered. I apologize for the poor treatment we received,
and suspect that we will not grace Atlantis with our presence any time soon. [Note here to future
WM’s: If the dinner falls on Valentines Day, buy the Ladies a rose. I was in the cross hairs for that
oversight as well.]

On a brighter note, our Lodge Dedication Ceremony/ Mason of the Year Dinner went very well.
Most Worshipful Grand Master Ira Slaven was pleased with our new home. A good time was had
by all, and for this event the food service was great, as we paid honors to WB Dennis Frye, our
Mason of the Year.

Plymouth Rock Lodge will be hosting a special evening of CPR training for all interested
members and guests as well. It is scheduled for Thursday, April 10th at 7:00 PM at the Plymouth
Rock Masonic Center. Attendees will learn how to administer Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation as
well as how and when to use a heart defibrillator or AED. This training will be given by my favorite
instructor, Kim Slessor, RN. Thanks go to Kim, and to Henry Ford Health Systems for the use of
their training equipment. Speaking of equipment, I am pleased to announce that the Lodge has
purchased an AED and cabinet as well as an ANSI/OSHA approved First Aid Cabinet. I hope that
neither will ever be used, but at least if the situation arises we will have the equipment to render
assistance and maybe even save a life. The presence of these items may have some appeal to
potential renters also.

Work on the kitchen area continues, and many of the furnishings are on hand at the Center
awaiting the arrival and installation of the cabinets. Thanks go to Dennis Frye and Dave Melton
for installing the required wiring and for repainting and to Dick L’Heureux for doing the legwork
for the kitchen area.

Stay tuned for many new happenings at Plymouth Rock. We are in the process of becoming a
Charter Partner for a Special Needs Cub Scout Troup and plans are being made to take a group
of Special Needs Kids and their parents to the Shrine Circus. We are expanding our sponsorship
of the T-ball team, also. WB Bob Johns is working on a scholarship program for the Plymouth area
high schools, and a trip to the Detroit Temple is in the works.

That about runs me down for this edition. I hope to see you in Lodge!

May God bless you all,

Jeff Slessor
